Many people often have a problem with Hayward Aqua Rite salt chlorinator, saying that it is giving a different reading from manual testing. Most times, you can solve this issue by recalibrating your system.
I will teach you how to go about it in this article.

Why Does Salt Chlorinator Fail?

Your salt chlorinator can fail due to several reasons, the main one being lack of maintenance. When you maintain your system, you ensure that excess calcium does not get stuck on the plates and give a false reading.
You should use a cleaning kit for salt cells to remove the build-up and keep the system in perfect condition. The other cause of failed chlorinators is improper water balance.
Inspecting Your Aqua Rite System

Inaccurate reading can occur due to various reasons. Thus, inspect your system as follows:
- The Inspect Cell LED – It should stay on or flash when the 500 operation hour countdown is over. You should reset the system manually by pressing and holding the diagnostic button for 5-second.
- The Inspect Cell and Check Salt LED – They flash together when the salt level is 2500-2600 ppm. Your system should continue to produce chlorine and work properly.
- The Inspect Cell and Check Slat LED – They should stay on if the slat level is at most 2300 ppm. The system does not produce chlorine and needs recalibrating.
Calibrating Your Aqua Rite Salt
Here are the steps that you should follow when recalibrating your Aqua Rite Salt Chlorinator to get an accurate reading.
Step One: Test the Water

The first thing is to test the water using a saltwater test strip to know the correct salt level. If you get a different reading from the one on your Aqua Rite, move to the next step.
Step Two: Switch the Main Switch

While the pump is operating, move the switch from the “AUTO” to the “OFF” position and back to the “AUTO” position. Wait for about 15 seconds to hear a click in the panel.
Step Three: Push the Diagnostics Button
After the click, push the diagnostic button five times. The system should begin to recalibrate.
Step Four: Switch the Main Switch

A number will pop up on the display screen and scroll down. When the number matches your strip result, turn the main switch from the “AUTO” to the “SUPER CHLORINATE” position and back to the “AUTO” position.
